The dB2K Web Classes include the sample Web application: ---- Conference Signup ------ [What the Sample does] It has three simple functionalities: 1. Sign up for a Conference Online 2. Browse Attendees who have signed up. 3. List Attendees who have signed up. [What files does it use?] Webclass.cc This is the file that contains the main dBASE Web class: CGISession() Signup.cc This is the custom subclass of CGISession that adds customized "Sorry..." and "Error..." pages. Signup.prg/Signup.exe This is the applet for live sign-up over the Web. SignupBrowse.prg/SignupBrowse.exe This is the applet that browses through Attendees SignupReport.prg/SignupReport.rep/SignupReport.exe This is the applet that runs a dBASE report that lists all Conference Attendees. All applets are included as fully-working executables and also as open-source dBASE source code (see \Web\Samples\Source). (Note. You'll need a running Web Server to test, view or develop these applications. dB2K includes a Win 32 version of Apache, the open-source Web server. We highly recommend that you install it on your local development machine using Apache's default installation. All dB2K samples and Wizards default to Apache's "Typical" setup.) [Installing The Sample Applets] Use the following steps to install and run the dB2K Web Class Samples 1) Install a Web Server. These instructions assume you've installed Apache on the same machine on which dB2K was installed. To install the sample applets on another computer, a different Web server or to folders other than the Apache default, adjust the paths listed in the following steps to accomodate your installation. 2) Copy the files. Like all Web applications, there are three parts: the HTML starting page the CGI applets the data. Each goes into its own folders as determined by the configuration of your Web server. To install the Sample into a local installation of Apache, copy the contents of the following two folders: \dB2K 01\Web\Samples\cgi-bin to: \Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\cgi-bin and \dB2K 01\Web\Samples\htdocs to: \Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs 3) Set the BDE Alias. If you need to copy the data to any folder other than the default installation folder (the Web\Samples\Data), adjust the "dBASESignup" alias of the BDE Administrator.to point to your selected data folder. If, for any reason, you're missing the "dBASESignup" alias, create it using the BDE Administrator and point it to \Web\Samples\Data 4) Start Apache (or whatever Web Server you've installed). 5) Start your Browser and Run the Sample Application. If you're running your Web server on the same computer from which you're running your browser, type: http://Localhost/signup.htm If you're running your Web Server on a Web Site that has an Internet Domain, type: http://mydomain.com/signup.htm If you're running your Web Server on another computer on your network, you can either use the computer name or IP address to start the Sample application: http://20.10.30.3/signup.htm (Of course, substitute your server's IP address for the one used above). [How to modify and rebuild the Sample?] We encourage you to play with the source code supplied with the Sample application. It is highly documented internally. Make sure to read through the Web Class documentation as well as the internal documentation for the Sample. There are two "build" programs included with the Sample: BuildAllToSamples.prg and BuildAllToApache.prg BuildAllToSamples.prg compiles and builds applets in the sample folders as they were installed from the Visual dB2K CD. BuildAllToApache.prg is strictly for those who have installed Apache Web Server using its default install folders. If you run this program, your Sample applets will be deployed directly to the appropriate Apache Web Server folders. This makes it very easy to fix and run. In fact, if you leave dB2K open and leave your Browser open, you can debug and perfect Web applets with amazing speed by fixing in dBASE, running "BuildAllToApache", pressing the Browser's back button and submitting your app over and over again. Enjoy the Web Class Sample Application. Note its excellent performance (Best on Windows NT and even better on any platform with dB2KFast.exe running!) dB2K is a TM of dBASE Inc. Apache is a TM of The Apache Group, a non-profit corporation. Windows NT is a TM of Microsoft Corp.
