Termination of Katrina Stevens and Tiffany Johnson Both were part of a 4 person crew working on removing yarn from the creel and packing it up. Prior to the beginning of the job, all members of the crew were advised that the prior repack job was poorly done. They were advised that the yarn that was repacked in the prior job had been just about destroyed. They were advised to take special care in repacking this yarn because it was to be used again. Early in the job I noted that the job was taking too long and I observed for awhile to ascertain why. I observed that the packing area was in complete disorganization. They were unable to move boxes around and unable to locate the correct packaging material in the mess. Boxes of yarn from prior unloading had not been completed for removal. Overflowing boxes of garbage had not been removed. They could not work efficiently. I offered the assistance of a male utility worker in cleaning up the area. I advised everyone on the crew to work with him and instruct him, since he was new to the job,in helping to clean and organize the area until the job was done. Two of the four workers in the crew are part time and left around noon. Katrina and Tiffany proceeded to other duties including "cutting rags" which is a "fill in" duty and I assumed my instructions had been followed. On returning to the work area I noted that my instructions had not been followed. Yarn remained unpacked and left around. Boxes had not been covered and sealed. Yarn had been packed in a box too heavy to move with no pallet underneath. $500 worth of yarn had been stacked carelessly 5 tier high on a buggy waiting to fall down. Repacked yarn had not been moved to its location or labelled. Both employees had been instructed on proper packaging of repack yarn, labelling, palletizing. Both employees, although "new" employees, had been involved in repackaging yarn and had been instructed on the proper care of yarn. The failure to follow direct instructions, in light of the warning given about the prior creel change, resulted in dismissal. The company has no place for employees with disregard for company property that they must be repeatedly told to take care to avoid its damage.
