
GREENSBORO — Mrs. Helen Magoulas Haar, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday,
December 4 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church with Father Warren
Pittman officiating.
Mrs. Haar was born on October 19, 1929 in
Glen Cove, N.Y. She was a loving wife, mother to triplet daughters,
grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She had many gifts and
talents. She loved to cook and entertain for her family and many
friends. She had several careers including bookkeeper, EMT, newspaper
reporter and bus driver for Greensboro Day School. Most recently, she
was employed by the US Census Bureau. In addition, she volunteered many
years for Jewish Family Services and the Carolina Theatre. She was a
communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church of Greensboro, and enjoyed
caring for the young children in the nursery every Sunday. She was an
active member of the Greensboro Ski and Outing Club, the Seniors
Reaching Out theatrical group, and was a proud alumna of the Glen Cove
High School Class of 1946.
Mrs. Haar was preceded in death by her husband John C. Haar.
Survivors include daughter Francesca Nixon and her husband, local
artist and sculptor Paul Nixon of McLeansville, Norma Jean Loftus and
husband William P. Loftus, III of Woodstock, CT., and Mary Ann Haar of
West Hartford, CT.; grandchildren, Caroline Loftus and William Loftus,
IV of Woodstock, CT., and Ana Claire Nixon of McLeansville.
