The push for gun control is perhaps the biggest mistake liberals have ever made. The reasons for this involve the failure of logical analysis. There appear to be two liberal camps on gun control. One camp's goal is to keep guns out of the hands of people who will use them to do evil. The other camp considers that that goal is impossible so guns should be outlawed and confiscated completely. There are a multitude of weapons in society at large which can be used to kill random innocent humans. Some of these are completely legal to own, mildly regulated and potentially more lethal to humans than guns. Two factors make these other weapons unregulated. First, they have other purposes besides killing innnocent humans and secondly, because they are not generally at the center of high profile mass murder cases. Herein is the first logical phallacy. Guns also have purposes which are not lethal to innocent humans. The result is that gun owners who do not and would not use a gun to kill an innocent human cannot understand why anyone would want to regulate their ownership of that gun. I think this debate is high profile is that guns are being used to randonmly kill innocent humans. Yet there are many ways to accomplish the same thing more effectively than with a gun. Why regulate guns and not cars? The purpose of the gun is not as significant to some as the purpose of a car.
